Hi, I’m Shelby Moravec, a fiber artist living at Forrester Farm in La Porte, Indiana, with my husband, two cats, a border collie, and numerous heritage chickens.

Creative pursuits have always been a part of my life. I learned cross-stitch and needlepoint from my maternal grandmother as a young girl, which started me on a creative path that has included numerous fiber arts, basket-weaving, tailoring, papermaking, and fine art. I graduated from Colby College with a BA in art history and a BFA in fine art as an oil painter, and I’ve continued to produce art throughout my life.

In 2010, a neighbor offered me a recently inherited (and unwanted) 4-shaft Harrisville loom. Weaving had always intrigued me, and for the last 15 years it has become my primary form of artistic expression. As a fine artist, I’ve always been drawn to the interaction of color, and woven textiles have provided a new discipline for creative discovery. Never interested in being a production artist, my textiles are distinctive for their use of color, complex structures, and attention to detail.

I’ve been an active member of the Duneland Weavers Guild since 2013 and have served on the Board of Directors as President, Program Chairman, Exhibit Chairman, and Fashion Show Coordinator.
